A common feature in the growing complexity of personal injury claims is the prevalence of chronic pain conditions and the overlay of addiction. It is a wicked problem for those suffering injuries and for those managing the claims arising from the injuries. Life at its most Challenging refers not only to the person afflicted but to everyone involved in their assessment, treatment, and claims management process. In this seminar, Professor John Saunders will present to the NSW CDG so that its members can understand these conditions to assist members consider causation and quantum issues in claims, profiling emerging risks, and considering the potential for book deterioration.
John Saunders is a professor and consultant physician in internal medicine and addiction medicine, with appointments at the University of Queensland and with a private hospital group in NSW. He qualified in pharmacology and medicine at the University of Cambridge and undertook his specialist training in the UK. He has been in continuous clinical practice in the addictions at specialist level since 1982, and has been a leading figure globally in addictions research and policy and has held numerous appointments on state, federal and global advisory bodies. He is the President of the Australasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine within the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
