Emma Levett, Partner for Fraud Investigations at Sedgwick, will present her insights on the occurrence of employee frauds in Australia and the key insurance issues encountered in investigating employee frauds.


Emma has over 13 years’ experience in investigating employee and other frauds and preparing and reviewing ‘proof of loss’ submissions and expert reports thereon.  Emma’s experience includes working with the Australian Federal Police and insurance sector service providers.  Emma is currently Partner in charge of Fraud Investigations at Sedgwick, Australia.


Using examples from frauds investigated, Emma will be providing an overview of various aspects of employee fraud claims including:

a) The prevalence of frauds against businesses;

b) Common aspects of employee frauds and claims;

c) Insurance coverage and policy response;

d) Challenges / pressure points both in respect of policy considerations and practical matters, including issues relating to:

- Costs – coverage;
- Date of discovery;
- Knowledge;
- Definition of ‘employee’;
- Controls/segregation of duties;
- Direct loss vs consequential loss (including “whose money was it?”);
- Basis of valuation of losses;
- Dual insurance; and
- Concurrent actions – civil, criminal and insurance.
